Tavarnelle's territory can be splitted into "excursion"and under this aspect,the view changes at each different angle and gazes on new valleys or another row of hillocks,discovering rural settlements with villas and castles, old farmhouses,churches,convents or chapels,all surrounded by unmistakable,suave and austere nature and scenery, amid vineyards,olive groves and cypresses ... Tavarnelle with the other seven Chianti's Commons takes part of the "Hiking Project",that provides 64 tours for lovers of cycling, walking or on horseback tours.There is a work in progress to elaborate the Project "Tourist oenologic and food excursions in Chianti" that will show, also with the telecommunications, excursions that allow to benefit by guaranteed and certified offers of oenology, food, hospitality, handicraft, museums and culture. Nature and landscape Very rich and variegated foreshortenings of the landscape are characterized by hilly morphology. The human work is intervened wisely during the centuries to modify a territory that was originally hard and wild. The woods are become fields,oliveyards and then vineyards with geometries and colours that make this landscape unic, where little villages,castles,rural settlements and churches are included. The buildings'colours,with their shades,blend perfectly with those of the landscape because the matters are born of the earth. The metayage and the farms have built and marked the Chianti with architectures created by moulding hills, rounding off with the properties and bild a barrier against the wind;the woods of holm-oaks and oaks to shelter from the sun or to attract the hunting. Agricolture The natural great fresco painted by the man on the territory produces fruits, with the enormous historic and artistic patrimony, that makes famous the Chianti all over the world. The main products of agricolture are wine and oil. A lot of producted wine is Chianti, with different denominations: Chianti Classico and Chianti dei Colli Fiorentini. The Chianti wine is the product of an happy marriage between grapes with different colours and fragrances that are together in a coupling, in the second part of the 19th century, settled by the baron Bettino Ricasoli (sangiovese,canaiolo,trebbiano and malvasia). The same happiness we have with the search and the discover of flowers and fragrance by the viticulturists and oenologists to realize new very appreciated products. The oil has a significant place in Tavarnelle: for the valuable production of home oil, for this we still find in use oil-mills with grindstones of preindustrial system, and because there is a great concentration of commercial concerns that buy and sell oil all over the world. There are dairies that produce cheeses:from the classic "Pecorino cheese" to the others with a soft or stale dough aromatized by local herbs. We must call your attention to the honey production characterized in its fragrance by flowers and plants that surround the beehives, different, everytime, for areas of harvests. In Tavarnelle there is the ancient tradition of sausages, in home concerns with the production of hams, salami and sausages that deserve a tasty stop. The historic memory of the rural civilization is committed to the: MEF-The Museum Emilio Ferrari of Rural Civilization of San Donato in Poggio Handicraft and productive activities One of the first productive pole of the province and region is developed and good harmonized with the environment,rural and culture values. The first productive pole of Chianti, in particular six fields:wood,mechanics and caravan, brickwork, objects for presents, robotic, alimentary and confectionary. An artistic handicraft of ancient tradition co-operates with the little concerns. Amid the artisan expressions we remember the embroidery "Punto Tavarnelle".
